BDA reports increase in distribution

The Brick Development Association (BDA) is delighted to report that the steady increase in UK-manufactured brick deliveries has continued in line with demand.

The latest figures from the Office for National Statistics (ONS) Department for Business Innovation and Skills, show that the sector has sustained a consistent rise in deliveries during the last twelve months. A significant year-on-year rise in deliveries was published for the fourth quarter of 2016 (up 26% compared to the same period in 2015), a trend that has continued in the first quarter of 2017, which has seen deliveries increase by 17% against the first quarter of 2016.

Tom Farmer, Marketing and Communications Manager for the BDA, comments: “In an economic climate where the UK is braced for uncertainty across all sectors, it is heartening to see how brick manufacturers have responded to changing market conditions. It is great to see that the market is healthy and delivery figures continue to increase. We are looking forward to seeing brick continue to be specified for new homes, as its combination of longevity, aesthetic qualities and durability make it a sound architectural choice.

“Manufacturers have the capacity to accommodate a short-term surge in housebuilding, and the resources to increase production in the long-term. There are some exciting new opportunities for this most established of building products.”
