Border launches bespoke mobile apps

In 2015 Border Merchant Systems launched two new mobile ‘Apps’ for integration with its CounterAct Software – ‘Mobile Stock Checking’ and the ‘Supplier Purchase Orders’. These apps assist companies to better manage the process of stock data capture and purchase management. Border is now delighted to announce that it is able to provide bespoke apps for client specific requirements.

Inter-Line (South-West) Building Supplies is one of Border’s customers that has been using the Mobile Stock Checking App for over 12 months. Steve Vincent, Operations Manager at Inter-Line, explains how the app has made a difference to the way they manage stock. “There have been many benefits to using the mobile stock checking app. The process saves a huge amount of costly labour intensive time, not only in terms of physically checking the stock, but with admin and entering the subsequent recorded data. It is also much more accurate than manual checks.”

How it works
Apps are available on Android devices and can be used on smart phones or tablets.

The Stock Checking app is designed to speed up and simplify the stock checking process. The app can be used to create and recall a spot check or perform a full stock check. Generating a stock check produces a list of products to be checked. The app can also use the built in camera on the phone or tablet to read bar codes on products, or users can connect a wireless barcode reader to the device instead.

The Supplier Purchase Orders app is designed to ease the generation of supplier purchase orders by using a mobile device, whilst walking round the showroom or yard. The app supports multi-branch organisations, so purchase orders can be generated for different branches from a single device. Users can choose as many products as they need and scan barcodes to help speed up the whole ordering process. The app will list the products that you have set to source from suppliers in CounterAct giving users the flexibility for changing purchase orders before sending.

The benefits of electronic stock data collection
For Inter-Line Steve states: “We now have a much speedier and efficient stock control process. This has helped to reduce our overall stock levels and redirect stock around our branches. Overall we have a more effective capture of data, from supply chain to dispatch. This is imperative in a business of our size and we are confident that we will be able to reduce both overall stock levels and the potential for ‘stock out’ situations.”

Phil Davies, Commercial Manager, Border Merchant Systems comments: “These apps are designed to speed up labour intensive processes such as stock checking and supplier ordering. They give our users more control to record and purchase stock in an efficient way with less room for errors. Border’s ability to design bespoke apps for client’s individual needs means anything is possible and integration with CounterAct is of course key. We are offering free trials of the Apps, subject to availability, to our users.”
