Chandlers highlights apprenticeship success

With the recent National Apprenticeship Week aiming to encourage more young people to go down the apprentice route, the Halesowen branch of Chandlers Roofing Supplies is keen to highlight what a positive experience it can be.

Jack Duroe, aged 22, completed a successful two-year apprenticeship with the roofing supplies firm, which resulted in him being offered a job as a full-time member of the team as an Internal Sales Co-ordinator.

During his apprenticeship, Jack spent time across all departments, including the yard, the sales office and the shop. He commented:

“Working across the different areas of the business was a great way of learning about the vast amount of products that Chandlers stocks. I particularly enjoyed being customer facing and getting to know the regulars, which is an area I would like to gain more experience in and use the knowledge that I’ve learnt.

“My apprenticeship really helped broaden my knowledge of the industry and I was delighted to be offered a full-time job at the end. As you get practical hands-on experience, I would certainly recommend looking into apprenticeships when deciding on career options.”

Richard Skinner, Commercial Director at Chandlers, commented:

“Apprentices in the builders merchant industry get to experience every aspect of the business whilst gaining a qualification at the same time. With Jack now employed full-time, the apprenticeship process has been a proven success and a benefit to the company, which we hope to repeat in the future.”
