Imperial Bricks to offer Heritage hydraulic lime mortar

Imperial Bricks has entered a partnership with Limetec to create a Heritage hydraulic lime mortar range, available in ready mixed, 25kg dual-branded bags.

The complementary product will be sold alongside Imperial’s wide range of handmade, wirecut and pressed bricks in builders’ merchants across the UK. Bulk bags and larger quantities requiring silos will be supplied directly by Limetec.

Seven varieties are available, including Natural, Bathstone, Cotswold and Traditional London, which is perfectly suited to London Yellow Stock bricks. The mortar is manufactured by Tarmac.

Speaking about the partnership, Jason Hughes, Managing Director of Imperial Bricks said: “Handmade brick and hydraulic lime mortar together ensure an authentic solution for period property renovation, and work perfectly with new builds too. We worked closely with Limetec in developing the Heritage range, to suit our RMI builders and developers’ requirements for suitable regional variations to work with handmade bricks.

“Imperial offer expert advice on the potential combination of bricks and mortar, to match existing brickwork or for a particular regional look. Our ever-expanding range of bricks now has a mortar to suit any style, from traditional houses to more contemporary apartments and offices.”

Peter Munden, Managing Director at Limetec also added: “Lime mortar is an absolute necessity when working with handmade bricks, as it allows for natural movement. It offers an improved aesthetic, with a textured finish to match the varied creasing in handmade bricks. It is a breathable material, allowing any moisture within the brickwork to escape naturally, reducing the risk of frost damage and ‘blowing’ of brick faces.

“The benefits of lime mortar are well documented, by increasing the longevity and durability of brickwork – it’s been used in the construction of buildings for over 2,000 years, so we know it works! The mortar is ready to use out of the bag – just add water. Our new exclusive partnership with Imperial Bricks will expand our reach in builders’ merchants, both nationals and independents, across the UK and we’re delighted to start this new venture.”
