Keyline secures back-to-back awards

Keyline has cemented its position as one of the industry’s health and safety champions after winning another top award. The company has received a gold RoSPA Occupational Health and Safety Award for the second year in a row.

The organisation secured the award after driving a number of significant health and safety improvements across the business. This included the introduction of a mental wellbeing initiative for all branch managers, reducing the risk of pedestrian and vehicle impact at higher risk depots, and the company’s investment in special hydraulic lifting attachments, which have been installed across every branch. The equipment is used to reduce lifting and handling, and Keyline’s health and safety team has worked closely with front line colleagues to ensure they were able to benefit from this investment. This included the installation of cameras at various depots to improve visibility and to help those employees who were struggling to adapt to the new methods. As a result, Keyline has now reduced the volume of materials hand-balled by its yard-based colleagues by 78% since 2014.

Keyline will now head to the Hilton Birmingham Metropole on Wednesday 12th July to collect its award at a special ceremony, which will also mark RoSPA’s centenary. The awards scheme, now in its 61st year, is open to businesses and organisations of all types and sizes from across the UK and overseas. Judges consider entrants’ overarching occupational health and safety management systems, including practices such as leadership and workforce involvement.

Richard Byrne, Safety Director at Keyline, said: “It is a fantastic achievement to secure a gold RoSPA award on one single occasion, let alone in back-to-back years. A tremendous amount of hard work and dedication has gone towards defining and implementing our industry-leading health and safety strategy, especially with regards to our wide-scale investment in special hydraulic lifting equipment. We are extremely proud to be recognised by such a respected and admired organisation.”

Julia Small, RoSPA’s Head of Awards and Events, said: “The RoSPA Awards are the most prestigious in the world of occupational health and safety, and held in high regard around the world, as winning one demonstrates an organisation’s commitment to maintaining an excellent health and safety record. Achieving the standard required is no mean feat.”
