Marley Golf Classic returns to the club house

The 2015 Grand Final of the construction sector’s Golf Classic tournament has been declared a great success, bringing the curtain down on a tournament which saw nearly 1,000 entrants taking part nationwide.

The Grand Final took place on Friday 2nd October at the spectacular Marriott Forest of Arden. Teams secured their place in the Final by winning six rounds of knock out golf played regionally. Finalists and sponsors played the prestigious 10,000 acre Championship Arden Course, followed by a gala dinner, prize presentation and overnight stay.

Steve Mitchell, of Alan Buchan Contractors, and Ken Mathieson, Architect, won the closely fought Grand Final. Steve said: “The Final was excellent. Our playing partners were friendly and played very well. The whole day was an enjoyable experience and the course was amazing. Definitely competing next year.”

During the evening celebration, lead sponsor Marley Plumbing and Drainage presented Steve and Ken with their winners’ trophies and £200 vouchers each. With only five points separating the winners from the runners-up, the game was very close with John Price, AB Central Heating and Geoff Melvin, Architect, taking the second-place trophies and £100 vouchers.

There are other ways to win at the Final. Jon Wood, IV Pickering Construction, won Nearest the Pin and his prize was sponsored by TSP Media. The prize for the Longest Drive went to Michael Cox, Everest, and was presented by Dave Jones from Hamerville Magazines Ltd. The competition sponsors also get to battle it out on the golf course. The four-ball teams played a lively game with Tony Crusham’s Sales team from Marley Plumbing and Drainage declared the winner.

The Golf Classic attracts a wide variety of golfers and professionals across the construction industry. Coming into its 24th year, the competition continues to grow in popularity.
