Hull-based MKM Building Supplies has continued its national expansion, cutting the ribbon on its 54th and 55th branches with the help of Peter Hindle MBE, the Chairman of the Builders Merchants Federation.
The two new openings bring a total of 32 jobs to the towns of Louth and Blackpool; 16 in each new branch. Louth is MKM’s third location in Lincolnshire; coming hot on its heels is Blackpool, its fourth in Lancashire, and Peter Hindle – BMF Chairman since 2014 – attended a VIP event to celebrate the launch of the Blackpool branch.
Now the UK’s largest independent builders’ merchant, the Hull-headquartered firm has grown steadily since it was founded in 1995 by Executive Chairman, David Kilburn. Last year, it celebrated the opening of its landmark 50th branch whilst its strategic growth plan has seen the business establish a medium-long term target of 100 branches by 2022.
MKM attributes its growth to a unique business model which gives Branch Directors a stake in their own branches. This, alongside what it describes as a “distinguishing focus on the customer service experience”, has allowed the business to expand as far south as Honiton in Devon and as far north as Perth, Scotland.
David Kilburn said: “Last year we celebrated the launch of our milestone 50th branch in Royal Leamington Spa. We’re delighted and proud to have the opportunity to establish ourselves in Louth and Blackpool. MKM puts the customer at the heart of everything it does – we hope the MKM formula proves popular as popular in Louth and Blackpool as it has elsewhere.”
Mark Thomas, Louth Branch Director, added: “The hand-picked team we’ve put together in Louth are buzzing to get started and show customers what MKM is all about: exceptional customer service, highly competitive pricing and an enviable product range. We can only encourage those in Louth and the surrounding area to give us a try for their next building project!”
