MKM commemorated at Redcar festival

MKM Building Supplies has been commemorated at the Redcar sand sculpture beach festival in recognition of the merchant’s ongoing support of the event.

The sand art competition forms part of Redcar’s annual Kick Off The Summer, a family festival that takes place over the Bank Holiday Weekend on the beachfront. The event was organised by the Friends of Redcar Community Group.

MKM donated all the sand for the festival, the fourth time that MKM has done so, with the sand being supplied by Tarmac.

Sand sculptors from around the world travelled to be part of the event and this year’s sculptures had a common theme to commemorate the area’s role in the First World War. Some sculptures also celebrated the Biggles’ books, a series written by WWI pilot W. E. Johns, who was a flying instructor in the Redcar area.

Scott McCabe, Director at MKM’s Redcar branch, said: “This is our fourth year donating to the sand sculpture festival – and each time, it just gets better and better!

“With the theme being the end of the First World War, there were some breathtaking sculptures that also carried important messages.”

Paul Bensley, National Accounts Manager for Tarmac, added: “We were simply delighted to support MKM with this fantastic project for another year, and be part of bringing some world-class sand sculptors to Redcar beach front.”
