BoilerMag receives brand refresh

2019 marks something of a new beginning for BoilerMag with a ‘brand refresh’ to reflect its position within the Spear & Jackson portfolio.

Steve McAllorum, Sales & Marketing Director for BoilerMag, talks to PBM about the continued success of the business and reveals exciting plans for the future.

With a growing sales team, numerous industry award nominations and “an unprecedented level of interest” from customers contributing to seven years of growth, the BoilerMag range of heating system filters and treatment chemicals can justifiably state that it has earned itself a prominent position in the marketplace.

Offering what is described as the only filtration product in the heating system filter market to be designed and manufactured by a company specialising in magnetic technology — Eclipse Magnetics — the BoilerMag domestic heating system filter is said to ensure that virtually 100% of ferrous oxide and scale is removed on first pass. Perfect for residential applications, it can be installed and cleaned in minutes, effectively removing both magnetic and non-magnetic debris.

The brand has now steadily expanded its product offering to include boiler filters for commercial and industrial properties, as well as high performance chemicals for heating system protection and cleaning.

Both BoilerMag and Eclipse Magnetics are part of the Spear & Jackson Group of companies and, from 2019, the range will now be marketed under the globally recognised brand, with the collaboration described as “a natural progression for the continued success of all businesses involved” and enabling BoilerMag specifically to benefit from “the strength of the Spear & Jackson name and the rich heritage associated with it”.

Indeed, with a remarkable 250 year history, the Spear & Jackson Group is a multi-national organisation supplying to over fifty countries across five continents with divisions covering garden tools, engineering tools, metrology equipment, woodworking tools, and magnetic equipment.

“Spear and Jackson has hundreds of years of experience and innovation, as well as an enviable reputation and a market-leading product range,” says Steve McAllorum, Sales & Marketing Director for BoilerMag. “As a recognisable household brand, working closely with them will allow BoilerMag to expand the reach of our popular range of magnetic heating system filters and water treatment chemicals, building on our own success and harnessing the global recognition of the Spear & Jackson Group.”

Interestingly, Steve tells us that BoilerMag’s many accolades aren’t limited to the success of its domestic boiler filter. In the last two years alone, the BoilerMag XT Industrial heating system filter has secured Level 2 Building Information Modelling (BIM) Compliance, and upped its warranty to 10 years whilst 2017/2018 also saw the XT unit receive prestigious nominations for a number of leading industry awards and it has recently been shortlisted as a finalist for the Tomorrow’s FM Awards 2019.

A busy calendar has seen attendance at UK based exhibitions including PHEX Manchester and Chelsea, as well as Build2Perform Live; The Chartered Institution of Building Services Engineers’ (CIBSE) building performance exhibition. Exhibitions overseas include Florida based AHR show; the Nordbygg Exhibition in Sweden in partnership with BoilerMag’s Swedish distributor Filtrena; and Heatec China in Shanghai, which was said to provide “the perfect platform” to introduce the BoilerMag products to the Asian market back in 2016.

ISH China & CIHE, the China International Trade Fair for Heating, Ventilation, Air-Conditioning, Sanitation & Home Comfort Systems is now a regular exhibition for BoilerMag, a show with a stellar track record for gathering the world’s leading brands within the HVAC and plumbing industry.

Steve said: “As the world’s biggest emerging market, Chinese exhibitions are proving a great success for BoilerMag. Last year’s ISH China was the biggest to date, and we were delighted with the level of interest from OEM boiler companies. Chemicals and filters are now becoming widely known in China, and people now understand that they are the first choice for keeping heating systems healthy and effectively controlling contamination.

“With the BoilerMag brand rapidly expanding in the UK, it was a natural progression to expand the product into the Chinese market that we not only understand very well, but have significant experience in.”

In fact, BoilerMag manufacturer Eclipse Magnetics has had a strong presence in China for over 10 years and now has over thirty employees. Based in Shanghai, its core activity is focused on selling automated filtration systems into the ever expanding automotive sector, with high profile customers including Honda, Ford, Volvo and Volkswagen.

Driving the expansion of the BoilerMag brand beyond China, former Sales Manager Bernard Barrett is now in the role of Regional Export Sales Manager and responsible for the sales and support of the product range overseas. With partners and distributors secured in numerous European, North American, Middle Eastern and Far Eastern territories, the brand is now achieving global recognition.

New product development

Steve explains that, in addition to a number of successful exhibitions, there have also been “some fantastic advances in the BoilerMag range”. In the last two years, the brand has launched its universal flush adaptor, enhanced the XT and XL industrial and commercial filters to include an automatic air vent for added corrosion protection, and made its range of high quality inhibitor and cleaner chemicals available in a range of large sized bulk containers for industrial-sized systems.

Indeed, Steve says that the brand’s continued success is a “testament to its high quality products and continued innovation within the sector. With premium quality manufacture and high collection capacity, the BoilerMag range of heating system filters offers a range of quality system treatment products for all applications, from small domestic properties to large industrial installations.”
