Ronseal receives accreditation from the BBA

Ronseal is arguably one of the best-known brands in the UK and now builders’ merchants can offer a range of BBA-approved, trade grade products from the company.

The accreditation is across its internal and external woodcare which has been specially created with professional tradesmen in mind.

Said to offer “easy-to-stock profit opportunities for merchants”, the Ronseal Trade range is billed as the first full woodcare range to receive official quality accreditation from the British Board of Agrément  (BBA) and is described as containing “all of the essential products for the professional tradesman to protect, treat, and preserve wood inside and out — from floors to fencing, and from decking to doors”.

BBA is the UK’s leading construction products certification body and has provided approval, certification and testing services to building products manufacturers for more than 50 years. The Ronseal Trade products presented to the BBA have passed all the stringent assessment tests needed to be approved as a reliable and robust trade product choice, with the tests including UV aging to assess fading and colour changes, fungal resistance, abrasion, tensile strength, impact resistance, water vapour permeability, gloss, hardness, slip resistance and more.

“Our test technicians had to apply the product to each substrate (hard wood, soft wood, steel etc) in full accordance with the manufacturer’s instructions, precisely measuring the exact grams of paint to be applied at the right thickness and temperature,” said BBA Senior Test Technician David Durrant. “Many finishes required one or more coats and most days we had racks of substrates drying and two or three people dedicated to painting more. Almost every member of the team was involved in preparing the substrates at one point or another. It was a large and challenging project that drew on the expertise of a multitude of people.”

The range itself includes a wide variety of outdoor wood care products including the best-selling 10-Year Woodstain (guaranteed to protect exterior wood for 10 years) and Crystal Clear Exterior Varnish, which has been designed to give lasting protection on exterior wood without ‘yellowing’.

Ronseal Senior Product Manager Chris Morgan said: “BBA Certification’s major benefit is that our claims are tested and verified by an independent body, delivering the trust and reassurance our trade customers seek.”

As evidenced at the recent NMBS Exhibition, Ronseal is a proud sponsor of the Rugby Football League — and the brand is giving away hundreds of great rugby prizes in a massive trade competition to celebrate Great Britain Rugby League’s tour of New Zealand and Papua New Guinea.

The competition runs from 1 May to 15 July 2019 and the top prize is a once-in-a-lifetime trip to New Zealand to see the Great Britain Rugby League Lions square up to the New Zealand Kiwis (at Eden Park, Auckland on 2 November) with flights, accommodation and airport transfers all courtesy of Ronseal. Runners up will visit Wembley for the Coral Challenge Cup Final on 24 August and there are lots of great rugby-themed Ronseal prizes up for grabs including rugby jerseys, water bottles and mini rugby balls.
