Isuzu Grafter delivers Champion performance

The success of its first 18-plate Isuzu Grafter over its three year working life has led to south-west builders’ merchant AJ Champion replacing it with another Isuzu Grafter as the company adds to its 25 strong commercial vehicle delivery fleet, which also includes an Isuzu 11 tonne tipper.

Supplied by local dealer AK Commercials, the new Isuzu Grafter N35.125 (T) swb rigid that has recently started work in the AJ Champion delivery fleet features a Brit Tipp dropside tipper body specified with an aluminium floor and tailgate.

Destined to work at the merchant for the next three years, the vehicle is delivering between 8 and 10 loads per day to customers within a 25-mile radius of the company’s Somerset head office, carrying loose materials, small bags of cement and aggregate, as well as bricks and blocks. Champions anticipates that the Grafter will cover just over 100,000 miles in its three-year working life at the company.

AJ Champion’s Steve Champion said: “Our first Grafter has really earnt its money since we bought it so when we were looking for a replacement 3.5 tonne truck, we decided, once again, to go for one of the latest Euro VI Grafters. The vehicle itself is actually a significant improvement on the incumbent 18-plate truck, with a much better suspension and ride quality. The drivers love it. Together with the robustly specified Brit Tipp body, the new Grafter will certainly be a solid practical workhorse for the three years that it is in our fleet.”

Based in Radstock in Somerset, family company A J Champion has been in business since 1967, and today there are three generations of the family involved in the day-to-day running of the business.

Andy Williams, UK network business manager for Isuzu Truck UK, added: “The Isuzu Grafter is a regular feature in so many companies that are involved in the arduous building and construction industries and it is good to see that its strong performance within the AJ Champion fleet has merited its latest further investment in another new replacement 21-plate Grafter. With market leading payload and a proven reputation for reliability and outstanding performance, we look forward to the new Grafter working hard for their business for the next three years.”
