AWMS raises money for charity in ‘Fireman Sam’ banger

Alumasc Water Management Solutions (AWMS) has taken up the challenge to enter the Pavestone Rally in aid of The Rainy Day Trust and the Teenage Cancer Trust. The annual Rally event raised £60,000 last year for charity, and aims to ramp up a gear this year to raise £100,000.

Over 30 cars are taking part, crossing through ten countries between 7th and 10th September. AWMS’ team of four was tasked to ‘buy a banger’ costing under £500 and create something that will grab people’s attention — which is exactly what they’ve done. Introducing ‘Fireman Sam’, the team will be dressing up in their fire fighter costumes and driving from Dover to Monte Carlo — passing through Belgium, Germany, Switzerland and Italy en-route — and crossing their fingers they don’t break down along the way!

A series of challenges have been established to compete for points based on the quality of fancy dress along with the age, engine size and condition of the car. Each team is tasked to raise as much money as possible on their journey, and create laughter and joy along the way. Bryan Clover, CEO of The Rainy Day Trust will present the award for the team that raises the most money in Nice.

The Rainy Day Trust is the only charity to support the home improvement workforce and their families in times of need. Whether it’s redundancy, falling on hard times, accidents or illness the Trust can help with financial assistance from one-off grants to modest annual awards. Its support includes helping retirees who are struggling financially.

The Teenage Cancer Trust supports 13-24 year olds with cancer, providing life-changing care and support so that young people don’t have to face cancer alone.

AWMS Marketing Manager Ben Green comments: “Our team is very much looking forward to the rally and raising money for such worthwhile causes. You’ll be able to keep up-to-date with our progress by following us on Twitter @AlumascWMS.”
