Border Merchant Systems is celebrating its 30th year in business.

Border Merchant System was formed in 1990 and is now celebrating 30 years in business tomorrow (1 December 2020).

The company was formed as a support company after a software supplier withdrew from the market. The merchants using the application did not relish the prospect of having to purchase another software system, so instead Border formed its own company and employed key staff from the former supplier. Since, Border created its own intuitive merchant software, CounterAct.

In 2013, Border became part of the Hermitage Innovation Group – a family run business that has five technology companies under its group umbrella.

According to the company, the fact that Border was originally formed as a support company is key to the outlook and the culture of the business. Border’s ethos is to work in partnership with its users to help them make the most of its investment in CounterAct.

Border only deals with merchants, giving it a clear focus in the way that the product develops and maintaining the importance of reliability, ease of use and support. This all adds up to a low cost of ownership for its many users.

CounterAct continues to grow with its customers as they too expand and open new branches and embrace the many new challenges the market creates, including e-commerce.

Border now operates out of a modern office located in Monmouth. More than 80 merchants use the current system from small single site businesses to large multi branch merchants operating all over the UK.

The system continues to progress, and the next issue (2-9B) will be released in the New Year and will include over 600 changes and improvements.

Phil Davies, Commercial Manager at Border said: “We would like to thank all our customers for their support over the last 30 years, and we thoroughly look forward to continue working with them in the coming years, whatever they may bring.”
