Covers hosts anti-theft tool marking event

Covers Timber & Builders Merchants in Chichester has announced it will be hosting a series of free anti-theft tool marking events during February and March.

The company, which is based on Quarry Lane, is inviting local tradespeople to visit its depot to get their tools officially marked by Sussex Police to protect their equipment and deter thieves.

Officially marking tools makes it more difficult for stolen items to be sold on, and helps to reunite equipment with its rightful owner if it is found.

Sussex Police will be at Covers Chichester providing the free service to all customers on Monday 18 and Wednesday 27 February between 10am and 2pm and Tuesday 12 March from 2pm until 5pm.

Figures obtained by Trade Direct Insurance reportedly suggest that a van gets broken into every 23 minutes in the UK, costing tradespeople an estimated £100 million annually. Data tagging is said to have had a major impact on reducing theft and helping businesses to protect equipment.
