Expansion for NBG members

Expansion for NBG members

NBG members continue to innovate and expand as the group’s members report strong trading conditions. NBG Partners Beers Timber & Building Supplies in the North West, Andrews Building Supplies Ltd in East Anglia and UK Plumbing Supplies in Oxfordshire have all announced new branch openings. Kellaway Building Supplies in the South West has also expanded its branch network to 12.

Beers
Liverpool-based Beers has expanded its branch network with the opening of a new site in Southmoor Road, Wythenshawe in Manchester in August. The city has been a target for Beers for a while and this site offered the merchant an ideal base that is the right size and the right side of Manchester to link with its Liverpool operations.

“Business is buoyant and we had been looking for the right site for some time. This location offers us a perfect foothold in the area,” says Beer’s Paul Conboy.

At 1.8 acres, the new branch is large enough to stock a very wide range of timber, heavyside and lightside products. An MBS Merchant Depot opened on the same site stocks a huge range of plumbing and heating materials.

Earlier this year Beers also opened a new branch in Birkenhead, adding to the company’s presence on the Wirral Peninsula. It also stocks a large range of timber, heavyside, lightside and plumbing materials.

Andrews
Work has been completed on the building of a new Andrews branch in Huntingdon, Cambridgeshire. The branch, on a 1.2-acre site will open to the trade in November. This will be the second depot for the company, along with its main branch in Peterborough.

The family –owned and -run independent firm was established in 1989 and operates a successful mixed light and heavyside business. “We felt it was the right time for us to open a second branch of Andrews Building Supplies, and with increasing numbers of our customers working down in Huntingdon and Cambridge we knew we needed to expand further south,” says Andrews MD Natasha Rose.

“From November we will be able to offer our existing and new customers a greater level of service at our new site in Huntingdon.”

UK Plumbing Supplies
UK Plumbing Supplies has added to its strategic network of branches in Oxfordshire with the opening of Oxford Plumbing Supplies near the city centre. This brings the company’s branch tally to six.

“This branch opening was definitely customer-led,” says UK Plumbing Supplies Director Nick Wheatley. “So many of our customers at other branches told us that they would welcome a central Oxford branch and we have been happy to oblige with this new depot.”

The branch, which sits at the centre of the company’s network of outlets, makes UK Plumbing Oxfordshire’s largest independent plumbers merchant. NBG Supplier deals were central to the successful launch of the branch which UK Plumbing Supplies Director John Mason believes is “100% NBG compliant”.

Kellaway Building Supplies: Kellaway Building Supplies
2017 has been a busy year for branch openings for NBG member Kellaway. As well as new acquisitions at Marlborough and Worcester (with the relocation of the recently acquired Premier Timber), Kellaway has opened a new distribution depot at Bedminster in Bristol to replace the previously smaller Ashton branch.

The new branches represent the latest in Kellaway’s programme of investment and development. As the business grows it is working hard to ensure that it has the ability to manage the continued growth in both customer numbers and its branch network.

Following the acquisitions of Jennings Roofing and Plumbing in Bridgwater at the start of 2016 they are also diversifying the business offering to include specialist roofing and plumbing centres.

Founded in 1982 and now with over 200 employees, Kellaway is one of the South West’s fastest growing independent builders’ merchants with 12 branches under the Kellaway banner.
