From the pages of PBM’s October 2021 edition, we take a look at some of the recent job moves in the building materials supply sector.

National Buying Group (NBG) has welcomed Phil Bonar to the role of New Partner Development and Recruitment. Having worked at senior sales positions for companies including Gower Furniture, Rixonway Kitchens, Aliaxis and Polypipe, Phil brings a wealth of knowledge about the industry and a vast number of connections to his new role.

In the new post, Phil will take care of identifying, recruiting and supporting new Partners in playing an active part in the success of NBG. He said: “The builders’ merchant market is constantly evolving, and this is a crucial time for NBG to grow and continue to support Partners through challenges including post-pandemic recovery, Brexit and supply chain issues.”


Knauf UK and Ireland is pleased to announce the appointment of Ian Stokes as Managing Director. This is a return for Ian who has spent the last five years managing the Knauf Northern European region and is looking to capitalise on this wider international experience to drive the UK business through a period of huge opportunity.

Ian has worked for Knauf since 1995, joining the marketing team initially and progressing through commercial roles before being appointed Managing Director in 2010. The transition back into the UK business has been gradual, with a full-time focus beginning in May.


Spirotech has made two new appointments to its national accounts and sales teams. Tony Carling, formerly Area Sales Manager for the north of England, has been promoted to National Key Account Manager following almost five years with the business.

With 15 years’ experience in engineering and heat exchange solutions, James Hurtley joins the team to take on Tony’s previous role.


Kerri Nadel has been recruited by ERA as its new Sustainability Programme Manager to lead its environmental improvement journey as part of its comprehensive sustainability strategy. Kerri has a wealth of experience in sustainable product innovation, including the successful reduction of waste materials, following five years as Innovation Technologist for Tarmac.

As part of her new role, she will be responsible for overseeing the environmental impact and actions of each ERA business, from product development and manufacturing to operations and logistics, as part of parent company Tyman plc’s Focus-Define-Grow strategy.


Paul Moss is the new Regional Sales Manager for JB Kind Doors’ Northern Home Counties, East Anglia and Lincolnshire region. Paul’s decade-long career as a sales specialist, within the same geographical area as his new patch with industry names such as Howdens and G & C Timber & Joinery, means that he already benefits from an excellent portfolio of client contacts and relationships.
