Having celebrated its 250th anniversary last year, Bradfords Building Supplies draws upon a long heritage in the UK construction industry and the building materials supply chain. The merchant was one of the first companies to sign up to the Construction Talent Retention Scheme, having immediately recognised “the positive impact it could have for both employers and candidates”.
On day one, Bradfords had already advertised more than 20 vacancies, ranging from entry-level apprenticeships and supervisor managers, to sales assistants and regional managers, at its 43 sites across the South West. Subsequently, the firm has had around 30 to 40 new vacancies at any one time on the portal, which is now seen as one of its main recruiting channels, in addition to the existing platforms it has historically used to advertise its roles.
The CTRS supports the whole construction industry and plays an important role in attracting new talent into the sector. In addition, as a collaborative platform that is free for all businesses and candidates to use, it serves to unite the construction sector in its collective aim to recruit and retain the best talent.
Lynda Moore, Head of Talent and Development at Bradfords, said: “When we heard about the scheme, it felt really positive and it was clear it was designed to do something good for the construction industry. It’s easy to use and is a useful tool for employers, as they can log on and look for candidates with the right skillset for their roles.
“The CTRS helps us to find candidates and makes it easier for them to hear about Bradfords and our positions, as well as further showcases our brand within the wider construction world. More importantly, it helps make sure valuable skills stay within the construction industry.”
