The Watford branch becomes the 41st in the Selco network and the business has more new outlets planned for 2016 and beyond as its ‘strong growth strategy’ continues.
Speaking at the recent opening of the Watford branch, Chris Cunliffe, CEO of Selco Builders Warehouse, said the company will open at least five more branches before the end of the year at Chessington, Wolverhampton, Portsmouth, South Croydon and Crayford. This will surpass 2015’s new branch tally as the merchant heads towards its next target of 50 locations.
Chris said: “2015 was our best year with records broken, but we are an ambitious business and we won’t rest on our laurels. We are currently working on new locations for 2017 to ensure we maintain our momentum for growth and reach our target.
“We are committed to evolving and developing the existing branch network to improve our offer in line with our core value of ‘customer first’. We will open up Selco to more customers in new locations, giving our suppliers more opportunities and creating hundreds of jobs. Taking into account last year’s new branches, our plans for 2016 and the coming years, I’m proud to say Selco will create more than 1,000 new jobs and our strategy is always to recruit from the local area, supporting the local economy and having a positive impact on the community.”
Aside from new branches, the company is also enjoying organic growth. Chris explained: “It’s not just the new stores that are boosting turnover, our like-for-like sales in existing branches are up too. We have also added Selco Direct to our offering so that even customers who don’t have a local branch can choose from over 5,000 lines and can click, pay and receive their products by courier the next day.”
At the Watford opening Selco donated a total of £3,000 to three local causes: homeless support charity New Hope, Watford Rape Crisis & Sexual Assault Centre and Watford & District Mencap.
