Selco hits fundraising landmark

Selco Builders Warehouse has crashed through the £500,000 barrier for Macmillan Cancer Support thanks to a range of activities across its ever-expanding branch network.

Staff, customers and suppliers at all of Selco’s 60 branches across the country have contributed to the fundraising efforts.

The money has been raised through a wide range of initiatives including auctions, golf days, sponsored cycle rides, cake sales and individual challenges such as the London Marathon, 10km road races and sponsored head shaves and leg waxing.

Commenting on the landmark, Selco Chief Executive Howard Luft, said: “I’m thrilled to be able to announce this news – it really is testament to our fantastic, hard-working staff and loyal customers and suppliers.

“Without their willingness to go above and beyond the call of duty, our donation to Macmillan wouldn’t be anywhere near as vast, so I would like to thank them.

“To be able to support Macmillan is an honour for us as a business. Almost everyone has been affected by cancer in one way or another – either personally, or through a family member or friend – and this is what drives us on.

“We’re pleased to be associated with such a worthy cause and long may that continue. While we’re very proud to have raised half a million, our fundraising efforts will be as committed as ever.”

Macmillan Cancer Support helps people affected by cancer, including patients, carers, families and communities.

The charity funds nurses and other specialist health care professionals and builds cancer care centres. Macmillan also provides practical help, including lifts to hospital appointments, as well as emotional support.

Gini Smith, Macmillan Corporate Account Manager, added: “Selco has been a fantastic partner for us over the last four-and-a-half years and we really can’t thank them enough.

“Their staff have shown unwavering support to our cause in so many different ways – including some very daring methods! With each new branch opening, Selco also contribute towards Macmillan grants, bringing support to our network across the UK.”
