Tobermore has announced it has been working with British Standards Institute (BSI) to achieve a BES 6001 accreditation, for the responsible sourcing of construction products.
With the UK Government increasing its focus on sustainable development, Tobermore said it was important to demonstrate its products were made with constituent materials that have been responsibly sourced. This BES 6001 certification will give Tobermore the ability to prove to specifiers and contractors that they have an effective system for ensuring its products are sustainable.
Furthermore, at their UK headquarters, Tobermore use a rainwater harvesting system, generate electricity using a wind turbine and solar panels and ensures its concrete waste is recycled and reused. All Tobermore paving and walling products are said to benefit from these green manufacturing methods and thereby achieve a reduced carbon footprint.
As part of the certification, Tobermore has been added to the Building Research Establishment’s (BRE) Responsible Sourcing League Table of compliant companies.
BES 6001 is said to be relevant to any organisation that manufactures construction products from foundation products such as cement and steel to concrete pipes and blocks, windows, flooring, roof tiles, plastics, wood products, as well as retail organisation’s that sell construction products such as large DIY stores.
