PBM reports on a couple of positive stories from MKM Building Supplies.
Triumph at Women in Business Awards
Linda Clarke of MKM Building Supplies has been named ‘Woman of the Year (Large Business)’ at the Barclays Yorkshire Women in Business Awards.
Linda, who is Marketing and Digital Director at Hull-based MKM Building Supplies, was crowned after being judged by an independent judging panel for the category of Woman of the Year Large Business (Turnover £50M+). Linda, a board member at MKM, was shortlisted for consideration after nominations were submitted by two organisations in recognition of her contribution to the business community.
The Barclays Yorkshire Women in Business Awards recognise the region’s top female business talent. Having celebrated its third year, the event acknowledges ‘women that have made an outstanding contribution to business’ and the economy in Yorkshire. There were nominees across six categories, who gathered on 23rd June at Bowcliffe Hall for a special ceremony. Guest speakers included MP Rachel Reeves.
Linda Clarke said: “I was already delighted to have been nominated, so to go on and win is a huge honour. While we hope that it will continue to become less and less unusual for women to hold leadership positions, having the chance to meet with and celebrate the varied and exciting contributions of women to businesses in the region, has been a wonderful experience.”
Football legends raise 5k for Hospice
An event in support of Essex children’s hospice Little Havens, featuring former West Ham players Tony Cottee and Tony Gale, has raised over £5,000 for the charity.
The event was organised by Mark Ward of MKM Building Supplies in Chelmsford, taking place at Chelmsford City Football Club. The fundraiser attracted over 130 guests.
‘An Evening With The 2 Tonys’ was attended by Cottee and Gale, currently Sky Sports presenters. In addition to a hog roast and magician, there was a fundraising auction hosted by Chris Brooks of BBC Radio Essex Drive Time, as well as a disco to end the evening. Money from the tickets and auction raised over £5,000 for Little Havens.
Little Havens Hospice is based in meadowland in Thundersley near Rayleigh, having officially opened in March 1998. Since then, it has cared for over 1,000 children with life-limiting illnesses and given vital support to their families. Caring for children or patients for years, months, weeks of even just hours, Little Havens aims to make a real difference to their lives.
Mark Ward, Branch Director at MKM Chelmsford, said: “After visiting Little Havens’ hospice, I was extremely moved and uplifted by the inspiring work they do. All the volunteers and staff are truly all about ‘making every day count’ for those with life-limiting illnesses across Essex. It was a great evening, with lots of laughs and a few tears!”
Claire Wilson, community fundraiser at Little Havens Hospices, said: “This was a fantastic evening. We’d like to thank everyone involved in making it happen. We must raise over £46,000 each week to be there for everyone who needs us, helping control pain and medication, offering short breaks and caring for children at the end of their lives. Little Havens can only exist because of the kindness of our supporters.”
