Two young boys from Haywards Heath have become construction wizards over the lockdown period. Daniel, 10, and Matthew, 7, with help from their father set about building a crane in their back garden and, of their own accord, dedicated it to local builder’s merchant, Parkers.
The boys filmed their completed project, and so impressed their dad that he sent the final cut to Parkers with a request that “should a delivery truck with a crane be going by perhaps they could drop in to the boys!”.
Mr Silk, the boy’s father and a Vicar by profession, said: “I have done quite a few building projects in recent years so the boys are used to seeing Parker’s Building Supplies lorries delivering materials. We thought having our own crane in the garden would be fun to do and it kept them busy and entertained for hours! When the boys also made the video of it, I thought Parkers should see it. I certainly didn’t expect what happened next!”
Mark Bootle, Manager of local Parkers Building Supplies, in Haywards Heath said: “The boys are great – what a great little construction project. We were so impressed with the boys we decided to surprise them.
“We headed out in our large delivery truck to pay them a visit. Our driver Sean, pulled up outside and showed the stunned boys how the crane worked while dropping some mini jumbo bags on their lawn as a demonstration. The boys were given some Parker Building Supplies goodies and also got the chance, under very careful supervision, to operate the crane themselves too!”
Mr. Silk said: “It was absolutely brilliant. The boys were totally surprised by it all. The goodie bags with lots of gifts were fantastic and the actual lorry with a crane right outside our door was the icing on the cake. It’s all boys have talked about since. Thank you so much to Parkers for their kindness, time and effort to make two small boys very happy. ”
It is understood that the boys are now planning their next construction and video project.
