Brett Martin launches “complete portfolio” for adoptable sewers

Brett Martin has launched Adopta, a complete portfolio of drain and sewer pipes, fittings and non-entry inspection chambers for where the drains/sewers are required to be adopted by the sewerage or water authority.

All of the products in Adopta’s comprehensive range are manufactured and tested to ensure full compliance with the strict industry guidelines and requirements for adoptable drain and sewer projects in England, Scotland and Wales, helping to resolve issues for merchants and their customers alike.

Speaking about the introduction of Adopta, Sales Director Chris Dawson said, through its network of merchant stockists, Brett Martin can now offer a greater range of adoptable drain and sewer packages to fulfil the requirements for housebuilders and developers when it comes to water and sewerage management.

He explained: “We know that water and sewerage management can be a minefield for contractors and, therefore, the merchants who are trying to advise and support them with suitable solutions. As a materials supply partner, we have the capability to provide a full-service package that serves all the practical requirements necessary whilst fully complying with all relevant industry standards.

“In Adopta, we now have the full package of products – along with all the technical back-up and support that merchants will ever need, giving them complete assurance when recommending and stocking high-quality products that meet their contractor customers’ needs and comply with local legal requirements.”

Meeting the standards

In Great Britain, there are three distinct regional guidance documents that govern the application of adoptable sewer projects. Whilst the spirit of these guidelines remains constant, regional variations make them difficult to navigate – particularly for contractors operating on a cross-regional basis.

The three guidance documents are:

Design and Construction Guidance (DCG) for England

Sewers for Adoption 4th Edition (SFS4) for Scotland

Sewers for Adoption 7th Edition (SFA7) for Wales

There are three core products in the Adopta range:

Pipes – these include structured wall pipes (in 110 mm and 160 mm diameters, certified to BS EN 13476-2 (and tested to WIS 4-35-01), Kitemarked and available in 3 m lengths) and solid wall PVC-U pipes (in 250 mm, 315 mm and 400 mm diameters, certified to BS EN 1401-1).

Fittings – these include couplers, bends (single socket and double socket), branches (double socket and triple socket), adaptors and plugs manufactured or certified to BS EN 1401-1. All fittings have an integrated lip seal for easy jointing.

Non-entry inspection chambers – these include a 450 mm diameter chamber with 110 mm and 160 mm inlet/outlet options and a 600 mm diameter chamber with 160 mm, 250 mm, 300 mm and 400 mm inlet/outlet options.

These chambers are certified to BS EN 13598-2 and Kitemarked, meaning they can be installed up to 3 m deep for adoptable installations.

In addition, Chris noted that Adopta provides the ability to offer a full, compatible and legislatively compliant underground package for adoptable sewer projects.

He concludes: “Our ability to bring Adopta to market has been achieved because of the hard work and dedication of our staff, who have an extensive knowledge of all the standards and regulations and have been able to distil them down not only to have a fully compliant range but also to provide clear technical support so that merchants can provide clear guidance for their customers.”
