Following the opening of its multimillion-pound National Distribution Centre last spring, Mira Showers has announced that the facility is now officially carbon neutral.
Located in Worcester, the centre opened last year after over two years of development. It is reportedly the most advanced Kohler distribution centre in the world, and now – with the installation of 1,560 solar panels on its roof – is said that it “completely balances the carbon emissions generated through its day-to-day activities.”
The panels will create 560,000 kilowatts of energy annually, 50% of which will be consumed on site and fuel the facility’s operations as it links manufacturing sites around the UK to create a swift, efficient, and easy delivery service for its customers. The remaining 50% will be exported to the National Grid.
The centre, built on an 11.25-acre site, uses “world class automation to process orders three times faster than previously possible,” with the capacity to hold over 10,000 pallets.
Managing Director Emma Foster said: “Our team worked tirelessly to design this state-of-the-art facility, and making the centre totally carbon neutral is another example of Mira’s commitment to and investment in manufacturing in the UK. We’re so pleased to have been granted this status, and look forward to powering the centre with electricity generated by the panels for years to come.”
The announcement of the centre’s carbon neutrality follows the publication of the company’s December 2022 Environmental, Social, and Governance Report (ESG). The report highlighted Mira’s desire for transparency in its goals to further embed sustainability into its daily business operations and beyond.
Through it’s achievement of 100% renewable electricity, the distribution centre is a key, early milestone in Mira Showers’ journey to achieving net zero by by 2035.
