The building materials sector is urged to “inspire the young generation” and show support for the great work of the Maddie Rose Campaign on Maddie’s Day this year, taking place on Friday 20th September 2024.
The Maddie Rose Campaign is dedicated to inspiring and supporting young people to discover careers in the supplier and merchanting sector and the broader construction and built environment industry. It has raised over £155,000 since 2021 – funds that have supported the work of Construction Youth Trust (CYT) and contributed to some remarkable successes including:
Careers awareness and employability support for 58,972 young people, 73.3% of whom were from groups underrepresented in construction.
Sessions delivered in 94 schools/colleges, 88.4% of which have above-average free school meal eligibility.
1,445 young people assisted into Education, Employment, or Training (EETs).
Intensive coaching provided to 2,836 young people.
In addition, the Maddie Rose Campaign has initiated the development of CYT programmes to directly support young people develop an interest in the merchanting sector:
Hidden Careers in the Supplier and Merchanting Sector: a programme aimed at shining a spotlight on the incredibly diverse range of roles in the sector, suited to a wide-reaching range of interests and skill levels. Launched in 2022 and still in use by CYT due to its success.
Negotiation Skills: a programme that taps into the skills needed to succeed in the world of business. Launched in 2023, with the ability to extend with further business modules.
Maddie’s Day is a fantastic opportunity to celebrate our accomplishments, spread awareness, and get everyone involved in making a difference.

Indeed, the BMF has reinforced this message and is asking all delegates to wear yellow for the Awards Dinner on the 19th and at breakfast on the 20th, in honour of Maddie’s Day.
Let’s turn the event into a sea of yellow to show our solidarity and support!
