Cheshire Mouldings continues to expand, investing a further £2 million to increase its UK production and distribution capabilities.
The company is looking to bolster its warehouse capacity, speed up production and streamline its processes whilst
continuing to provide “the superior support to its merchants and stockists that it has become renowned for”.
Whilst 2020 has been one of the most challenging years for all industries, the family business has continued to grow; adapting quickly to the changes, its teams successfully implemented social distancing across its factory and warehouse facilities to carry on fulfilling orders and continue to support its customer network (the company’s products are reportedly stocked in more than 3,900 UK merchant and retailer stores).
In November 2020 a new 30,000 sq.ft. distribution centre will open at its Merseyside site, housing a state-of-the-art barcode picking and warehouse management system, designed to streamline and reduce order lead times. This is to be followed by an 80,000 sq.ft. storage warehouse which will open in late 2021.
The company has also taken delivery of a brand-new automated moulding machine, a Powermat 1500 moulder from Weinig UK. This machine is desribed as being one of the most productive in its sector incorporating a splitting unit with a unique shoe box cassette system. The moulder can produce small mouldings in multiples using both vertical
and horizontal splitting techniques which were jointly developed by Weinig UK and Cheshire Mouldings.
This development is said to give huge gains in efficiency, producing at least six individual small mouldings sections in a single pass, increasing productivity and ensuring prices stay competitive.
In addition, the company says its commitment to product development has seen new stair part ranges developed to mirror latest trends and styles. Common parts have been redesigned with the tradesman in mind to make install as easy as possible as well as reducing stock holdings in stockists and merchants. Furthermore, the introduction of new literature, including interactive options, an updated website and improved fitting instructions across all ranges provides merchants with a quick reference and installers the assistance and support they need at their fingertips.
Managing Director John Carney said: “2020 has certainly been a challenging year for our industry, from our customers’ stores temporarily closing, to managing the huge surge in demand post lockdown. Despite this, Cheshire
Mouldings has continued to grow, our focus has remained on our customers, placing them at the forefront of everything we do and our teams have gone above and beyond to support them. The quality of our products and manufacturing processes combined with our dedication to stockists means we continue to be a market leader
in stair parts and mouldings.
“We firmly support UK manufacturing and are dedicated to developing it, our significant investment and expansion ensures added security for our employees, new jobs within our local community and it also means we can continue to provide customers with the products and the support they need for their businesses to thrive.”
