The transformation of a sports centre in Essex has created a lasting legacy for the community in a partnership between Crown Paints and Kent Blaxill.
Earls Colne Recreation Club is now a warm and welcoming environment, which encourages locals to enjoy sport and a social space. The work has been carried out at the club under the ‘All Hands On Dec’ campaign organised by Crown Paints and Kent Blaxill.
Kent Blaxill partnered up with Crown Paints to launch the £10,000 decorative refurbishment programme in April, with a remit to re-energise a local, community-orientated space in Essex which is used for clubs, events, children’s activities or sports.
Earls Colne Recreation Club secured the highest number of votes from the public and a team of volunteers pledged their time and skills to bring the project to life.
One of the most striking elements of the restoration was the refurbishment of the sports court. Due to the complex nature of the works, the complete job of sanding, re-lacquering and re-marking the court lines was performed by specialist contractors Conrad Park, who used Sadolin PV67 Heavy Duty Varnish for a premium finish on the project.
Other Crown Paints’ products used included Crown Trade Clean Extreme, which is ideal product for high-traffic areas, offering a finish that is 100% more stain resistant compared to conventional matt and vinyl emulsion.
A colour scheme was also drawn up by the Crown Paints’ Colour Services Team, who used the latest visualisation technology to bring the shades to life.
Kevin O’Donnell, a Product Trainer at Crown Paints, travelled to Essex to support the volunteers with product and application advice. He said: “I really enjoyed working with the team and helping them to understand how to use the products. We are delighted to support such a worthy cause.
“Earls Colne Recreation Club hasn’t been decorated for nearly 40 years so the transformation has made a massive difference. Durable products specified for the project will ensure the transformation will last for the long term and the colour scheming makes the very best use of the space.”
Earls Colne Recreation Club was opened in 1978 and is a main focal point for leisure activities and socialising in the village. Sue Freear, from Earls Colne Recreation Club, said: “We are overwhelmed to have won and really appreciate the help we’ve received.”
James Park, Commercial Director of Kent Blaxill, said: “Wow! What a difference a committed team of volunteers can make using the expertise of professionals, and having access to Crown Paints’ vast portfolio of professional products enabled the Kent Blaxill team to produce a truly uplifting finished result that will benefit the community for years to come.”
