Grant & Stone is an independent merchant founded in 1987, with 29 branches across the UK. With over 30 years of experience in the trade, Grant & Stone supplies a wide range of construction products to a diverse customer base including builders, electricians, plumbers and the general public.
Recently, the Grant & Stone Group has acquired five new businesses, 3Counties Timber and Building Supplies, CRS Building Supplies, Total Plumbing Supplies Limited, Buildit and RGB Building Supplies. These acquisitions demonstrate the group’s commitment to expand its network and product range for their customers. The most recent acquisition of RGB Building Supplies has added several branches to the group’s portfolio, totalling 74 and extending from West London to Cornwall.
The growth in demand for landscaping materials, particularly over the last year with more people spending time at home and renovating their gardens, coupled with Grant & Stone’s commitment to increase its product offering for their customers, meant they were looking for a composite decking product.
In 2018, Taylor Maxwell partnered with Composite Prime to supply its composite decking range. Made from FSC 100% wood flour and recycled plastic, Composite Prime decking is engineered for durability, sustainability and ease of installation.
Grant & Stone is a member of National Buying Group (NBG), a UK-wide partnership of independent merchants. Formed in 2003, its Partners are dedicated to improving profitability and business opportunities by committing to buy products together, whilst providing an efficient route to market for suppliers like Taylor Maxwell. With an existing relationship in place through the supply of roofing battens, NBG provided an opportunity to establish a closer relationship between Taylor Maxwell and Grant & Stone.
Taylor Maxwell was pleased to put forward a deal with NBG to offer Composite Prime decking, a product which provided the perfect solution for Grant & Stone. Beginning with eight branches, Grant & Stone have seen great success from sales of Composite Prime year on year. Steve Blackmore, Branch Manager for Grant & Stone, High Wycombe said that “Composite Prime decking works well for us a business because of the quality of the product and the easy clip and screw system. Customers also love the range of options and colours available.”
Nick Oates, Managing Director at NBG said: “This is a fantastic example of how NBG Partner and Suppliers can work collaboratively to achieve mutually beneficial results. It’s great to see Grant & Stone’s success and to see the group and other Partners making the most of the great deals available through NBG.”
Grant & Stone stocks the HD Deck Dual and HD Deck XS ranges. The HD Deck Dual is dual-sided decking board, available in three reversible colour combinations including walnut/oak, antique/carbon and natural oak/slate, finished with a natural wood grain texture. The HD Deck XS is also a dual-sided decking board, available in three contemporary colours – lava, silver and walnut and finished with either thin or wide grooves. Taylor Maxwell is able to offer stockists like Grant & Stone consistent supply, marketing support to promote the products and quality service. Steve Blackmore said: “Taylor Maxwell offers top quality service and we’re very pleased to be working together to offer this superior product to the market.”
Last year, Composite Prime launched a rewards scheme aimed at customers and suppliers of their composite decking. Customers who purchase the decking can submit a copy of their receipt to be entered into a prize draw and be in with a chance of winning several prizes, from a Lay-Z-Spa hot tub and pizza oven to a cheese tasting subscription and selection pack of wine. Suppliers of Composite Prime decking are also in with a chance of winning, as customers who submit their receipts state where they purchased their decking. Grant & Stone is involved with the rewards scheme and enjoys encouraging customers to take part.
