Huws Gray has announced it has appointed Stephen Thompstone as Non-Executive Director, who has over 35 years industry experience.
Stephen is currently CEO of Crendon Timber Engineering and MD of Wyckham Blackwell and has served as a Non-Executive Director of the Builders Merchants Federation where he spent six years representing and protecting the interests of merchants and suppliers.
The majority of Stephens’s career has been spent with The Grafton Group where he most recently served as Managing Director of Buildbase, guiding the company through an acquisition-led growth strategy, which included the integration of Hirebase and Jackson Building Centres. Prior to this, he has also held senior roles at Jewson and Harcros.
Stephen said: “I have been very impressed by Huws Gray’s rapid growth over the past 28 years from a single outlet in Anglesey into the leading UK-wide independent builders merchant it is today. There is significant potential for Huws Gray to grow further, and I am excited by the opportunity to draw upon my experience at Buildbase and the Builders Merchants Federation to help guide the Huws Gray management team’s ambitious growth strategy as they expand into new parts of the UK.
Terry Owen, Managing Director of Huws Gray, commented: “Stephen has an unrivalled knowledge of our industry gained from his time at the Builders Merchants Federation which will be invaluable in supporting the growth of Huws Gray. Stephen has a distinguished track record of driving expansion through acquisition at Buildbase and we look forward to leveraging his experience to further our own expansion plans.”
