The Institute of Builders Merchants (IoBM) has announced a new ‘Professional Development Fund’ which will open up training opportunities for those in the merchant sector.
Over the last few years there has been a lot written about the skills shortage currently afflicting the construction industry. Many possible causes have been speculated and many potential solutions hypothesised. Despite the extensive debate on this subject there is only one thing that has been proven — it will require more than rhetoric to fix.
The IoBM has been in the industry longer than most and understands actions speak louder than words. It knows that, from the yard operative to upper-management, the merchant industry appreciates the value of a skilled team and understands that every individual can become more proficient in their job if given the right tools.
“The fund is open to members and non-members regardless of age or current career status. With a sizeable budget at its disposal, the IOBM will be able to remove the barriers of career development and get many people on an even more positive career trajectory.”
As such, the Institute has been working to implement a strategy that improves the life of everyone in the sector by offering a clear path to further training and support to members, no matter what their position. The IoBM is now involved in endorsing training programmes delivered by the Builders Merchant Federation (BMF) and other major industry organisations.
As part of this overarching campaign, the IoBM is very proud to announce the opening of a new Professional Development Fund which will facilitate further training for those working in the industry. The fund is open to members and non-members regardless of age or current career status. With a sizeable budget at its disposal, the IOBM will be able to remove the barriers of career development and get many people on an even more positive career trajectory.
Allan Durning, President of the IOBM, commented: “This fund is designed for everyone who has the itch to become more skilled in his or her job. We want the merchant industry to be known for its commitment to the highest standards of self-development and by making this professional development fund available the process to do so becomes far simpler.”
Applications are now open and those who wish to apply for the grant should email admin@iobm.co.uk
