The Jewson branch at Arthurs Bridge Wharf in Woking has become the national builders’ merchant chain’s latest site to go near zero carbon energy.
In addition to a new shop area with additional storage space, the renovation of the depot features improved insulation, energy-saving LED lighting throughout the store, and air source heat pumps to create a comfortable temperature inside the branch. Said to be significantly reducing the store’s carbon footprint, all of the products and technology installed are available to customers through Jewson’s Making Better Homes range.
The branch’s environmental makeover has been made possible through the Carbon Fund of its parent company, Saint-Gobain and the Woking store is said to be one of around 30 near zero carbon energy Jewson branches planned for the next year.
Branch Manager Domi Scrivener said: “Sustainable building products are now part of daily life. The latest updates to building regulations mean our customers will need to become more familiar with solutions which help improve efficiency across their projects.
“We’re proud that our branch is one of those leading Jewson’s drive towards greater sustainability, and that this investment will result in significant improvements for our customers. The feedback we get from them is crucial. We’ve heard them ask for a wider variety of timber, sheet and roofing materials recently, so we’re happy to be able to extend the range we offer at our branch.”
Showroom strategy
Jewson has also recently announced the opening of its new kitchens and bathrooms showroom in Kilmarnock. Located on Queens Drive, the branch is described as being “the largest of its kind in Scotland” and opened its doors in early September. The Ayrshire Showroom launch has seen an initial three new roles created for local people – one full-time showroom manager and two part-time sales consultants.
The opening comes as part of a wider strategy from Jewson to extend its network of specialist showrooms across the UK from 25 to 100.
