Leyland is celebrating its 100th birthday this year, marking a century of being by the side of tradespeople and DIY consumers to help them get decorating jobs done.
Starting in 1922 as Leyland Paints, the brand is said to have been one of the first manufacturers to pioneer the development of emulsion paints for the homeowner. The journey began with the launch of Leytex Water Paint, which the company says marked a major advance in paint technology and was quickly adopted by the trade, remaining a bestseller today in the form of Super Leytex Matt.
Throughout the century, the brand grew to become a staple for multi-skilled tradespeople and DIY consumers. For example, in the 1960s it was awarded the prestigious By Appointment to Her Majesty the Queen accreditation, and in 2009 was recognised as one of the UK’s leading business brands by the Superbrands organisation.
Today, Leyland says its products are renowned for making decorating easy, with “simple-to-understand products and packaging, and no-jargon marketing”. From Leyland Trade Smart Matt, which makes use of the latest technologies to help tradespeople “deliver a quality finish every time”, to the “much-loved” smooth masonry range Granocryl, which provides excellent coverage and durability for DIYers looking to spruce up their home exterior surfaces, there’s said to be a product to “make every decorating job a breeze”.
To celebrate this milestone achievement, Leyland will be launching a variety of “unmissable promotions and initiatives” for customers throughout the year via its stockists, as well as hosting a special birthday party in the summer – a chance to look back at everything the brand has achieved over the last century.
Natasha Ram from Leyland said: “There’s no doubt that marking 100 years is an astonishing achievement for any brand, so we couldn’t be prouder, but it’s all down to the incredible support our customers have shown us throughout the years. We’re dedicated to making the lives of tradespeople and DIYers easier by keeping our product ranges focused and simple, putting quality before quantity, and we’re grateful for the loyalty our customers have shown us in return over the past century.
“We look forward to celebrating with them throughout 2022 – and here’s to the next 100 years!”
