Magply is celebrating its successful supply partnership with JP Corry as the merchant looks to increase its offer to the market on passive fire protection products.
With 16 branches across Northern Ireland and another in Ramsey on the Isle of Man, JP Corry is a highly successful builders’ merchant business which is continually expanding. This includes taking the decision to stock the high performance, non-combustible Magply boards manufactured by IPP Building Products, as the company looks to increase its offer to the market on passive fire protection products.
Now part of the STARK Group, the company was originally established in 1814 and acquired its Springfield Road site in Belfast in 1965. In Northern Ireland, the merchant is selling the full range of Magply boards available in all sites including this flagship branch.
An example of the partnership is the provision of Magply to the new Belfast Transport Hub, which is nearing full completion. The £200m development has seen Farrans JV create an iconic new interchange with eight railway platforms and 26 bus stands, where Thornton Roofing has installed 800m2 of 20mm Magply boards as the deck for an intermediate roof level where fire performance was a priority.
Nick Hughes, Commercial Director for JP Corry, commented: “With the expansion of fire protection in JP Corry we required a high quality, A1 fire-board. Magply was the logical supplier for us as it provides a great range with impeccable service.”
With a Class 1 fire rating and backed by BBA Agrement certification, Magply MOS boards “present a fire-safe and environmentally friendly alternative to conventional plywood or OSB products.” Additionally, the unique production process keeps the chloride content to just 0.01%, enhancing both stability and long-term durability.
The different thicknesses of panel are also widely used as a substrate board for the direct application of proprietary render systems, as well as for flooring and flat or pitched roof build-ups. Furthermore, for the conversion or construction of apartment buildings where fire performance is a top priority, Magply says its products are not just being used as part of the cladding build-up but also internally to form pattresses behind plasterboard drylining to support the weight of cupboards and bathroom fittings, where the material’s “excellent pull-out strength is a real advantage.”
