Smart-Space has completed the construction of a timber processing and storage facility for Mike England Timber, at its headquarters near Preston, Lancashire.
The new building is a re-locatable 10 by 32.5m structure, with 40mm insulated steel-cladded walls, a 5 by 5m electric roller shutter door and a double-layer, air-insulated PVC roof.
It houses storage racking as well as the compressors, dust extraction, sanding, texturing, vacuum coating and brush coating machinery required for the company’s timber coating, texturing and drying processes.
Jeanette Corner, Managing Director, said: “Our business is all about supplying high quality timber products and offering cladding solutions. We work with market leaders, Sikkens and Mighton, and are factory-approved timber coaters. We also offer specialist and bespoke timber mouldings, all to the highest specifications and augmented by high levels of customer service.
“We have experienced significant growth over the last few years in our traditional markets and have expanded into the outdoor buildings and leisure sectors. This new facility enables us to shorten our lead times and to take on more business by batch processing bespoke orders – providing customers with a more flexible, efficient and effective service, whilst maintaining high levels of quality.”
The entire installation took eight days to complete, with the Smart-Space team working in a confined space, around the ongoing operations on the busy site. Mike England Timber were said to have considered a more permanent building, but decided on the more cost-effective way of creating the required space in a much shorter timeframe, without any loss of building integrity.
Jeanette continued: “Smart-Space mirrors our own business in many ways. The response to our initial enquiry, the positive and friendly attitude of the entire team, the quality of the solution and the excellent aftercare has all been remarkable.”
