MKM Anlaby invests in Hull’s first short wheel base crane

MKM Building Supplies’ latest investment is helping the company squeeze into restricted places.

The builders’ merchant’s Anlaby branch, based on Springfield Way, has invested in what is thought to be Hull’s first short wheel base crane.

The Atlas 92.2-A1 Remote Control Crane sits on the back of a specially built short wheel base 16 tonne Iveco Eurocargo and enables the company to deliver to properties and developments with difficult or limited access.

With a lifting capacity of 1,370kg at 5.4 meters and 2,180kg at 3.7 meters, the crane will enable MKM’s delivery drivers to drop off materials such as gravel, bricks, paving or tools even to the tightest of building sites.

Anlaby Branch Directors Ian Pratt and Glenn Paddison said they decided to invest in the vehicle after their drivers had struggled to deliver materials to smaller sites around East Yorkshire.

Ian said: “When a property has restricted access, it means standard delivery vehicles are too large, and drop off their load at the closest point. However, that means customers are left with having to move tonnes of product by themselves which takes a lot of extra effort and can be time consuming.”

“I believe we are the first builders’ merchant in Hull to invest in this type of vehicle because it enables us to deliver directly to smaller sites in the area that others are unable to. The crane was put straight to use the day after it arrived, and is already proving its versatility and convenience. It has a busy schedule ahead.”

Glenn added the investment was a testament to the continual growth of the business over the past 15 years.

“We opened the Anlaby branch in April 2000 with three members of staff,” he said.

“Now, 15 years on, we have a team of 30. Over that time we have continued to listen to our customers and adapt to their needs and that has enabled us to succeed. Investing in this crane is another example of that.”

MKM Anlaby is one of 42 branches that MKM Building Supplies has in operation. In 2011, the branch underwent a major refurbishment and now hosts Project Home, the most extensive bathroom and kitchen showroom in the MKM network. The showroom has recently been updated, with brand new displays constructed in branch and more on the way.
