Northstone partners with Onduline to expand low-pitch roofing offer

Roofing tiles manufacturer Northstone has partnered with Onduline Building Products to expand its offering into the growing low-pitch roofing market.

The collaboration is said to mark a significant step for both companies, as demand rises for roofing solutions that combine modern aesthetics with robust waterproofing at pitches traditionally considered beyond the scope of standard tile systems.

Low-pitched roofs, typically defined as having a slope of less than 20°, are becoming increasingly popular across residential extensions and commercial developments due to their contemporary appearance and space-efficient design. However, such designs can pose challenges for contractors, including slower water runoff, increased risk of leaks and a lack of compatible tile products.

In recognition of these challenges, Northstone has adopted Onduline’s ISOLINE LOW LINE sub-roof system, described as an advanced solution designed to provide secondary waterproof protection beneath traditional roof coverings. Fully compatible with a wide range of tile profiles, ISOLINE LOW LINE enables roofing professionals “to confidently work on pitches as low as 10°.”

Ken Anderson, National Sales Manager at Northstone, said: “Collaborating with Onduline has enabled us to expand into new markets and tackle roofing projects that we would have previously had to decline due to pitch limitations. The ISOLINE® LOW LINE system has opened the door to a wide range of low-pitch applications, particularly in the commercial sector where design flexibility and waterproofing integrity are critical.

“From retail units, refurbishment schemes to house extensions, we’re now able to offer a fully compatible solution that maintains the visual appeal of traditional tiling while meeting the practical demands of low-slope roofing. The system has proven to be reliable, easy to install, and integrates seamlessly with our full range of tiles, helping us deliver consistent quality across every project. It has significantly enhanced our specification capabilities.”

The system, made from 47% recycled cellulose fibres, features a corrugated structure that promotes ventilation and helps prevent moisture build-up and timber degradation. Reportedly, it is currently the only sub-roof system in the UK with both BBA certification and BRE testing for use down to a 10° pitch, and comes with a 30-year guarantee.

Paul Duffy, Managing Director of Onduline UK, added: “We’re delighted to work alongside Northstone, a company with over 60 years’ experience in manufacturing roof tiles and helping them unlock new commercial and residential opportunities and deliver superior waterproofing performance for low-pitch roofs.

“The ISOLINE® LOW LINE system empowers professionals to confidently say yes to a wider range of projects, knowing they will meet the highest standards for durability, longevity, and visual appeal.”

The manufacturer explains that the ISOLINE® LOW LINE system has already proven its effectiveness in several commercial applications, including a number of recent refurbishment projects for supermarket chain Aldi. With multiple stores affected by ongoing roof issues due to long rafter lengths and shallow roof pitches, Northstone integrated ISOLINE® LOW LINE to provide a dependable solution across all sites, helping ensure watertight performance while preserving tile-led aesthetics.
