It is with great sadness that Long Rake Spar wishes to inform its suppliers and customers of the sudden death of its much-loved colleague John Hurdley on 30th January 2020.
The company released the following statement: John started work at Long Rake back in March 2004, carrying out several key roles, from External Sales Manager for the East Midlands to Production and Operations Manager. Having briefly left the company to pursue other opportunities John later returned to carry out the role of Chief Buyer, a position he held until his retirement on 30th June 2018.
During his employment with Long Rake Spar, John garnered numerous friendships with both customers and suppliers, many of which knew him from his previous role at the former, Small Lots Mix It site at Featherstone.
John was a wonderful gentleman to work alongside, always having time and a friendly word of advice for all who came into contact with him. His love of the decorative aggregate business was infectious, having spent much of his life connected to it, his enthusiasm and good humour will be sadly missed by all who had the pleasure of coming into contact with him.
Former colleagues are invited to attend a memorial to celebrate the life of John, which is due to be held at
- Blythe Church at 1pm on 27th February, followed by a wake at
- King William at Scaftworth from 3pm.
Donations are being held for Survival International, a charity personally chosen by John, whereby you can donate by clicking here www.svlint.org/donate
