The staff of Parker Building Supplies, Maidstone branch, are swapping their steel toe cap boots for hiking shoes and preparing for an epic challenge of walking 16 miles through Kent on August 20 to help raise money for young people with cancer.
The Maidstone branch is taking on the challenge, starting at Hollingbourne, following the Pilgrims Way to Charring, and back again. They will be finishing at the Dirty Habit Pub with refreshments and friends and family cheering them through the finish line.
The walk is one of the many challenges and fundraising activities taken on by Parker Building Supplies as part of its 10-year partnership with Teenage Cancer Trust. The partnership has already seen an incredible £100,000 raised to support young people with cancer, and the team are only half way through their dedicated 10 years.
Luke Tuffield, from Parker Building Supplies Maidstone, said, “We’ve all been affected by cancer in some way, be it someone in our family or a close friend, so it means a lot to us to be able to continue to help young people who are going through this terrible illness. I’m sure this challenge will be no walk in the park, but it’s going to be a great way to push ourselves and raise those all-important funds.”
Sian Cooper, Teenage Cancer Trust Regional Fundraiser, said, “The team at Parker Building Supplies has been absolutely incredible with their fundraising and dedication to making a difference to the lives of young people with cancer. Their passion to help the cause is inspirational, and their continued support is also playing a huge role in raising awareness in the South East area. We can’t thank them enough!”
Teenage Cancer Trust makes sure the seven young people aged 13 to 24 diagnosed with cancer every day don’t face it alone. The charity works in partnership with the NHS, providing expert staff and specialist units in Principal Treatment Centres for cancer, and brings young people together so they can support each other.
Teenage Cancer Trust is aiming to provide specialised nurses across the UK in order to reach all young people with cancer, no matter where they live. To do this they will need to raise £20 million a year, every year.
