A well-known figure in the UK plumbing and drainage industry, Paul Wadsworth has been promoted to the newly-created role of National Sales Manager at Brett Martin Plumbing and Drainage.
The development comes off the back of “significant growth” for the company – especially in a challenging market. The supplier prides itself on the support it offers to its merchant partners, and states that Paul’s appointment will strengthen these relationships.
In addition to managing the company’s 16-strong sales team, Paul will work closely with the recently appointed National Specification Manager, John Kelly.
Paul will report to Sales Director Chris Dawson, who said: “Paul has worked for the company for just over 36 years and has extensive experience covering business development and regional management, as well as working for the Ariel Plastics division of the business in his early career.
“Over the years, Paul has made a significant contribution to the performance of the division, and he is absolutely the right person to channel all his knowledge and experience into motivating the team to deliver a strong sales performance.”
Quipping that his promotion to the position of National Sales Manager is “36 years in the making,” Paul said: “Brett Martin has made a significant investment, which has reached right across the business – from the development of new products and ranges (such as Adopta) to the increase in the size and scale of our manufacturing and production capabilities.
“I’ve had the good fortune to be part of this business for more than three decades and have seen it go from strength to strength first hand. It’s a proud moment to be part of a team that are all fully committed to achieving a strong growth trajectory in the next couple of years.”
When not on the golf course, you will find Paul out in the peak district, plugged into a podcast or audiobook and walking with his beloved whippet, Harold.
Investing in growth
Paul’s appointment is the latest in a series of appointments and announcements about the growth and expansion of Brett Martin this year. In August, it announced its first international manufacturing venture, with a new factory in De Pere, Wisconsin, USA. Trading as APC (American Polycarbonate Company), the 48,000 ft2 facility on a greenfield site is being established as a joint venture with Brett Martin’s leading US distribution customer, Amerilux International.
APC will manufacture multiwall and corrugated polycarbonate roofing sheets for use in a wide range of sectors across the USA and is scheduled to commence production later this year.
Meanwhile in June, the company announced that it was investing £15 million at its Mallusk site in Northern Ireland, to drive future growth in its Plumbing and Drainage division.
This expansion marks the largest single investment in the company’s history and reinforces Brett Martin’s long-term commitment to its local manufacturing base. The investment will nearly double the production footprint of the plumbing and drainage facility, adding 25,000 ft2 of advanced manufacturing space.
Phase one of the project includes the installation of new automated injection moulding solutions, to improve the manufacturing efficiency and output of drainage fittings. Brett Martin aims to increase the volume output by 30% over the coming years.
To support the expansion at the Mallusk site, where over half of the company’s total workforce is located, an additional 70,000 ft2 of warehousing has been constructed.
The Mallusk site is said to be one of Northern Ireland’s leading sustainable manufacturing locations, featuring dedicated wind and solar power generation and a strong emphasis on the use of recycled materials. This investment supports both the company’s growth ambitions and its environmental commitments.
