Selco provides charity windfall

Selco has demonstrated its commitment to Macmillan Cancer Support by extending the company’s partnership with the charity until the end of 2016.

Selco Builders Warehouse has raised £174,000 for Macmillan Cancer Support over the last three years and now staff have voted in favour of continuing to back Macmillan throughout the next two years.

Chris Cunliffe, Chief Executive of Selco Builders Warehouse, said: “We are delighted to be supporting Macmillan Cancer Support for a further two years and to extend our successful partnership with the charity.

“Our staff, customers and suppliers have really thrown their support behind our charity push over the last three years and to raise over £174,000 is a fantastic effort by all concerned.

“We took a staff vote on which charity we should support over the next two years and the fact that we are continuing with Macmillan Cancer Support shows it is obviously very close to the hearts of everyone who works at Selco.

“We can’t wait to get started on our next two years’ fundraising. Activities are already planned and we want to get over the £300,000 mark.”

Amongst the many events which staff, customers and suppliers have already taken part in to raise money are golf days, cycle rides, charity runs — including HR manager Simon Ball running the London Marathon — auctions at the annual Selco supplier conference and participation in the Macmillan Coffee Morning where baking skills are put to the test.

Rhys Parker, Regional Corporate Account Manager for Macmillan Cancer Support, said: “We are thrilled that Selco Builders Warehouse has decided to continue its support over the next two years.

“They have been a key partner of ours in recent times and the money they have raised has been a brilliant effort and had a massive impact on the support that we as a charity can provide.

“It’s a fantastic amount of money and it has gone a long way to ensuring we can provide support and information for people affected by cancer and those closest to them.”

Selco’s branches across the UK offer an extensive range of  building materials, drainage, roofing, heating, plumbing and electrical products, a range of timber including a bespoke cutting service, doors and windows, ironmongery and fixings, decorating supplies, landscaping and fencing items as well as kitchen and bathroom showrooms.

Selco’s latest tool and plant hire initiative is also available in all branches in London and the south east, and Nottingham.

As with all Selco branches, there will be an in-branch café, trade counter services, direct-to-site delivery options and van size parking spaces, all designed to make it easier for tradespeople to get onto the job as soon as possible.
