Dorridge Cricket Club, which has 23 senior and junior teams, claimed the prize of £1,000 worth of building materials from a competition run by the NatWest T20 Blast runners-up Birmingham Bears and its headline shirt sponsor Selco Builders Warehouse.
The Club Together initiative saw cricket clubs from across the Midlands invited to take advantage of a special discounted ticket offer for Bears home matches throughout the NatWest T20 Blast campaign.
The club who sold the most tickets over the summer won £1,000 worth of products from Selco – which has branches in Tyseley, Tyburn, Perry Barr and Stirchley – and Dorridge came out on top. The club will use the funds to carry out improvements to the front of its clubhouse at the John Woodman Ground.
Sanjay Vadher, a coach and committee member at Dorridge, whose first team finished seventh in the Birmingham League Premier Division, said: “Winning this prize will make a huge difference to the club environment and will benefit all our players, members and spectators. We are looking to use the Selco products to carry out work to the front of our clubhouse and bar area and make it look more pleasing on the eye.
“We are always aiming to improve on and off the field as a club and this will help us towards achieving that.”
Carine Jessamine, Marketing Director of Selco Builders Warehouse, said: “One of the key aspects of our sponsorship of Warwickshire and Birmingham Bears is to ensure we give something back to the community and local cricket clubs is a great way to do that.
“Dorridge Cricket Club have shown great support to Birmingham Bears through the NatWest T20 Blast season and we hope our prize will make a big difference to the club.”
Alex Perkins, Head of Commercial at Warwickshire CCC, said: “Our partnership with Selco has delivered several marquee projects that give unique prizes and experiences to local cricket clubs in Birmingham and Warwickshire, including the donation of Selco products, coaching sessions with Bears players and even an opportunity for junior cricketers to play on the hallowed turf at Edgbaston.
“We’re very grateful to Selco and to all local cricket clubs that signed up to our Club Together scheme, particularly the winners at Dorridge CC. All clubs provided great support to the Bears on our journey to NatWest T20 Blast Finals Day and it’s completely free to get involved.”
Selco now has 57 branches across the UK, and is in its third season of sponsoring Warwickshire and Birmingham Bears.
