SR Timber reports that its full customer-facing team has completed an independent and comprehensive training programme to ensure all members are now fully certified to grade timber roofing battens to BS 5534:2014+A2:2018.
With decades of experience in the sector, SR Timber has long been recognised for its expertise in timber but until recently, its Trading Director Shaun Revill was the only qualified batten grader in the business. Now, the team has successfully completed independent training to become certified batten graders.
This certification ensures they are qualified and competent to grade tiling battens for commercial use, enabling them to assist customers in identifying properly graded battens that are suitable for their intended purpose and, perhaps more importantly, to identify those that are not. The training course was conducted by timber expert James Coulson CEnv FIM FFB AIWSc from TTFT Woodexperts.
SR Timber offers a wide range of timber products for construction, but it is best known for its trademarked graded PREMIUM GOLD batten. Roofing battens are designed to carry heavy weight loads and must be accurately graded and treated to ensure they are fit for purpose. As a reputable supplier, SR Timber provides guidance on the appropriate dimensions, thickness, and width of the battens while ensuring that knots in the wood are not excessively large. All products must adhere to the tolerances outlined in BS5534.
Shaun Revill, Trading Director at SR Timber explains why it is important to provide regular staff training. He said: “Throughout the entire supply chain — from production to installation — there is a responsibility at each stage to ensure that timber batten products are manufactured correctly. Educating clients on the benefits of using a properly graded roof batten that complies with BS 5534 is also an important part of this process, and now all our customer-facing employees are officially certified to do this.”
