Thompson & Parkes has donated a range of building materials to Far Forest Primary School to help them build their new pop-up shop which will benefit the whole school community.
Thompson & Parkes General Manager, Gary Watts, said: “As a local business we’re always happy to help as many community projects as we can, so we’re delighted to be able to offer our support by donating the materials Far Forest Primary School needs for their pop-up shop project.”
The long-established merchant has helped several local schools and nurseries with a variety of educational projects and is always willing to invest in and support the local community.
Partnering with Matthews Construction, Thompson & Parkes donated urgently needed wood, breathable membrane, insulation and screws to the project. When the school’s new shop is finally complete it plans to sell a range of goods from school uniform to ice creams and hot drinks.
Rob Matthews, Construction Director of Matthews Construction stated: “It is very generous of Thompson & Parkes to donate these materials. Ron Clowes has been the driving force and designer behind this project assisted by the PTA and as soon as they put the call out on Twitter, Thompson & Parkes responded immediately to pledge the goods.
“On this project we have tried to use recycled materials from demolished buildings in the local area as the budget was non-existent. Without Thompson & Parkes we simply could not have finished the project. Community schemes like this really are a joy to be involved in and I can’t wait to see the building being used by the PTA to raise much needed funds for the pupils of Far Forest school.”
Executive Headteacher, Shelley Reeves-Walters, commented: “We are so thrilled by the generous donation of materials from Thompson & Parkes. The pupils and families of Far Forest Lea Memorial CE Primary School are so fortunate to have the support of local businesses in securing vital funds for the school.
“All funds raised through the pop-up shop will enhance the provision to all our pupils and provide opportunities for our families to forge strong links in the area. As the new Executive Headteacher of this amazing school I have been overwhelmed by the welcome I have received and the support of our parents and local businesses. I know the staff and pupils join me in thanking Thompson & Parkes for their outstanding contribution to us and in turn the wider community of Far Forest.”
