Travis Perkins Plc has been recognised for its work supporting the Armed Forces with a Defence Employer Recognition Scheme (ERS) Silver award.
The accolade, which is awarded to companies that are making a demonstrable effort to support, recruit and develop armed forces personnel, was bestowed to Travis Perkins for its commitment to supporting the Armed Forces.
Travis Perkins has actively recruited 200 service leavers since 2015 in roles spanning branch management, IT and supply chain and logistics. The company also became the 1,500th signatory to the Armed Forces Covenant in March 2017.
Carol Kavanagh, Group HR Director at Travis Perkins Plc, commented: “We’re incredibly proud to have been awarded ERS Silver. We have long recognised the valuable skills, professionalism and dedication that service leavers can bring to our business and we’re committed to showing our ongoing support for the defence community”.
The merchant also offers Reservists flexibility to complete military training, including additional leave training, and has an established recruitment programme consisting of company open days, online CV clinics and a strong relationship with the Ministry of Defence’s Careers Transition Partnership (CTP) who help place service leavers into roles.
John Wilson, the Ministry of Defence’s Regional Employer Engagement Director, said: “We are delighted that Travis Perkins has received a Defence Employer Recognition Scheme Silver award”.
“Travis Perkins signed the Armed Forces Covenant in March this year, pledging to support its employees who are a part of the Armed Forces community and employs ex-regulars, reservists and cadet force adult volunteers and recognises the transferable skills and attributes that their military training has brought to the business. We now look forward to developing this relationship as the company continues to support Defence personnel through the Armed Forces Covenant.”
