Worcester Bosch has announced the winner of its children’s storybook writing competition – nine-year old Samuel Debenham from Northampton.
The competition was launched in April 2021 following the release of Worcester Bosch’s own sustainability-themed storybook, “A Robot Called B4”, which tells the story of friends Ava and Alfie who, through the discovery of a robot called B4 in a garden shed, travel back through time to the age of dinosaurs to realise how our past actions are destroying the green planet we once knew, before returning home to fight for a better future.
Worcester Bosch challenged children ages 7-11 to submit ideas for a sequel, with the winner having their idea made into a book to be released later this year. Sam’s winning idea, titled “A City Called L8R” and cleverly playing on the name and themes of the first book, was chosen for its optimistic view of how the world could work towards a greener future together, through a travel forward into time to a world we could have if we increased our protection of the planet.
Chosen by a judging panel consisting of Worcester Bosch, media title First News, and narrator of the “A Robot Called B4” audiobook edition, TV and radio Presenter Angellica Bell, Sam’s entry was awarded first place for its creative view towards a more sustainable future. The heating systems manufacturer hopes that Sam’s passion can inspire children and adults alike to live more sustainably, echoing “the spirit of the brand’s commitment to protecting our future”.
Along with a Worcester Bosch goody-bag, which was also sent to four competition runners-up, “A City Called L8R” will be produced in collaboration with Sam into a limited number of physical copies. These copies will be shared with Sam’s family and classmates.
