
Leicester-based roofing specialist Roofbase is the latest name to become a Partner of National Buying Group, “seizing the opportunity to buy better and tap into a wider merchant network across the roofing sector.”
Steve Lloyd, the merchant’s MD, has been in the roofing business for nearly 50 years and took the step to join a buying group after discussing the benefits of NBG with another roofing merchant and NBG Partner, Adrian Shelly, Managing Director at Henshaws Roofing and Building Supplies.
Steve said: “I’m a very independent person and, when Adrian approached me, the thought of needing NBG was something I wasn’t sure I wanted. I didn’t know if it would actually bring a benefit. But speaking to Adrian about the difference NBG could make, he said, ‘I think you ought to consider it.’”
That conversation persuaded him to consider an NBG partnership and the business soon began the process of joining.
Roofbase and Associate Partner Roof Giant will both have access to NBG deals and will continue to operate as distinct businesses serving different audiences. Steve explained: “Roofbase is the trade counter business whereas Roof Giant is for e-commerce and I didn’t want them to be blended.” The separation reflects the difference in customer behaviour between online and in-store.”
Steve said he joined NBG with his “eyes wide open” and intends to be at meetings, learn from other Partners and contribute where his experience can help improve things for other merchants or the group as a whole. He said: “I want to pass on as much knowledge as I soak up.”
