The BMF is set to welcome merchant members back to its Coventry HQ for its popular Branch Management Workshop, returning 17-18th March for two days of leadership development, practical learning and industry insight.
Designed exclusively for Branch Managers and those aspiring to step into the role, the workshop supports delegates in strengthening leadership capability and driving branch performance across every area of operation. With a comprehensive two-day programme, attendees can expect a blend of strategic perspective, hands-on sessions and inspiration — all aimed at equipping managers with the tools and confidence to lead more effectively.
The event will be hosted by Kevin Parr, a leadership specialist and experienced communicator with a sterling track record in the building materials sector, and known for his work in high-performance environments. Kevin will guide delegates through both days, ensuring maximum value is gained from the diverse agenda.
Day One opens with an overview of BMF’s Strategy and Core Values from CEO John Newcomb, setting the scene for sessions focused on leadership styles, communication and management visibility. Highlights include a session from Excelsior Solutions Consultancy’s Kat Dancey on The Communication Leader, alongside insights into modern leadership from Chris Fisher of ECI Software, who will explore the impact of AI, and Rachel Constable of MKM Building Supplies, who will share perspectives on sustainability.
The afternoon brings a strong operational focus, with speakers from recognisable merchants and suppliers contributing their expertise on becoming The Knowledge Leader. The first day concludes with an interactive discussion on leadership and management before delegates come together for the Networking Dinner at the Village Hotel, located close to BMF Head Office.
“Alongside the structured programme, the workshop offers valuable networking opportunities throughout, enabling delegates to connect with peers and industry experts, exchange best practice and strengthen professional relationships.”
Day Two turns attention to logistics, culture and inspiration with sessions covering transport, time management and team motivation. A key feature of the morning programme will be The Inspiring Leader, which will see Selco CEO Frank Elkins sharing his insights into real-world leadership experiences.
The afternoon programme, meanwhile, addresses vital topics including health & safety and learning & development, with contributions from Huws Gray, PGS, Lighthouse and BMF’s very own Learning & Development Manager, Marianna Peet.
Closing the workshop, keynote speaker Stuart Barker will deliver a powerful address drawn from his experience commanding soldiers on operations worldwide, from the Gulf War to Afghanistan. Stuart will reflect on leadership under pressure, sharing lessons in courage, adaptability and clarity that resonate strongly with today’s branch management challenges.
