Elliotts employees Steven Webber and Darren MacAskill have recently graduated from Birmingham City University with a Masters in Multi Unit Leadership & Strategy.
Operations Manager, Steven, and Tadley Branch Manager, Darren, both graduated from the BMF-approved course with a Distinction award. The pair completed their Post Graduate Diplomas last year and studied for a further nine months to gain a Masters, both of which were funded by the merchant.
To complete their qualifications, Steven and Darren had to complete a 14,000 word dissertation on a related subject of their choice.
With a focus on streamlining the operational side of Elliotts, Steven dedicated his dissertation to Analysing inter-branch transfer (IBT) optimisation within Elliotts utilising a transfer cost benefit model (TCBM).
Steven commented, “With a growing network of branches across the south, we need to look more into the efficiency and relevant costs of transferring stock between branches. If we’re able to reform this process, we can improve our customer service even further.”
Explaining why he chose to base his dissertation on Solving the Builders Merchants Talent Attraction Problem Through Enhanced Employer Branding, Darren said, “Talent attraction, I feel, is the biggest threat to our industry. It was a subject I felt could have a positive impact on the company going forward.”
“The support and funding that we’ve received from Elliotts to gain our qualifications has been fantastic. It’s great to work for a company that invests in its staff and I hope we can promote this further to attract new staff.”
Tom Elliott, Managing Director, said “Both Steven and Darren play important roles in the running of Elliotts and they have managed to balance this with the copious hours of work required to complete their qualifications. This is a huge testament to their characters, and is a reflection of the talent we have working for us at Elliotts.”
