New Ibstock facilities to deliver 100m additional bricks

Ibstock Brick will increase its capacity to produce an additional 100 million bricks a year thanks to a major project delivered by G F Tomlinson.

Three new buildings are being built at the manufacturer’s Leicestershire site including an 18,000 square metre production building, a 3,600 square metre clay preparation building and a smaller building for feeding quarry materials into production.

Extensive external works will also be completed, reaching across 50,000 square metres to accommodate stockyards, lorry parks and roadways, as part of the multi-million pound development.

Colin Richardson, Group Development Director for Ibstock Brick, said: “This new facility will not only help us to grow our business, but also means that we achieve our vision to create the world’s most modern brick factory. “We work hard to set the industry standard for quality, energy and sustainability and this project, once complete will have a positive impact on the local economy and support growth in construction across the UK.

“G F Tomlinson’s reputation for high-quality construction and its ability to manage a site in a sustainable manner alongside our own team was key to our decision to select them to work with us on this project.”

The project is already said to be generating benefits for the area with G F Tomlinson using local sub-contractors and suppliers in the delivery of this important development. To date, all £7.1m of supply chain orders have been placed with companies located within Leicester, Nottingham and Derby.

The development is due to be in operation from winter 2017.
