Jewson will be raising vital funds for Barnardo’s in 2017 after the children’s charity was selected as its charity partner for the next 12 months.
Under the ‘Together’ initiative that sees Jewson and other companies in the Saint-Gobain group take part in volunteering and fundraising activities for a staff-nominated charity, the builders’ merchant will support Barnardo’s in transforming the lives of vulnerable children.
Barnardo’s, a leading children’s charity, helps to give children a voice, defending, safeguarding and supporting the most vulnerable in society. The key focus of the new partnership will be to help vulnerable young people across the UK, particularly those who have spent their childhood in Local Authority care, and need support to enter the world of work as an independent adult.
Throughout the partnership, Jewson and Saint-Gobain will extend its network of employment, training and skills services to ensure that vulnerable young people, including care leavers, don’t miss out on the support, advice and work opportunities available to those from different backgrounds.
Mark Rayfield, Jewson CEO, commented: “We’re passionate about giving young people the best possible chance in life, and this makes Barnardo’s our perfect charity partner. Our employees are always enthusiastic about coming together and raising money for good causes so watch this space, there are some big events in the pipeline!”
Barnardo’s Chief Executive, Javed Khan, said: “We are delighted to have been chosen as Jewson’s charity partner. The expertise Jewson brings to this partnership will ensure that Barnardo’s can create the best possible start for young people, particularly care leavers looking to take the next steps towards independence.”
Jewson has supported a number of charities in recent years, with fundraising activities ranging from long distance walks and mountain climbs to monster marathons and world record-breaking attempts. The highlight of the fundraising year is the annual Tour de Jewson bike ride, that sees employees and suppliers come together in a sponsored cycle around the UK.
The Together scheme has raised a total of £3.2 million to date for a range of charity partners including Barnardo’s, Help the Hospices and Macmillan Cancer Support. For more information on Barnardo’s, visit: www.barnardos.org.uk
